sory ask kc wala ako sapat na budjet for short term culinary courses need ko sana 5months pataas na course eh ang tuition naman halos over 80 k meron bang mga 50k lang tapos 5 months pataas yung trainings…guys help me naman kung anong school pwd sa mga alternatives ko

    • hi popoy, there are lots of alternative

but come to think of it 50k pesos is a high amount, but to consider our economy today and you need a 5months course, you will suffer the quality of ingredients ,teaching, and exposure,

      so here are my alternatives

since the competition of culinary schools, students today, are like nursing 6 years ago, even a diploma cant guarantee a sure slot in the industry

      1. get a short course from a reputable culinary school, check the site ,blogs, forums about them

2.be a good student, but dont act that you know all,be humble

3.ask for a letter of recommendation ,(some schools dont offer practicum on short courses)

4.apply for OJT (be choosy dont just go on a dying hotel or a short order cook position on restaurants)aim for the best.

5.be good on your kitchen job “discipline, focus, determination” is a must
Extend hours if necessary,or be early ,set up the station for your chefs

      6.dont backstab,dont comment,learn everything be hungry !!

7.IF your good they will get you,or if not, talk to the chef de cuisine
and explain what you want, and your future plan,

I like all these comments about AHA here. It must be a fantastic school according to the ONE PERSON working for AHA writing it.
I know people that spent time as students in AHA and they are saying something very different. It is not a good culinary school. I even know about three students that walked out of AHA to join the school that I am joining now. The interesting thing is that AHA is much more expensive. Choose another culinary school for your studies.Do NOT choose AHA.

      • rhea
      • March 6th, 2012

Choosing a culinary career is really investing money. After all education is investment. AHA may not be ur good choice because of what u’ve heard. But u better research first, AHA IS STILL A GOOD CHOICE!

    • James
    • March 6th, 2012

    Rhea,
That is exactly what I did. Researched. I am sorry AHA is not a good school. I know that you read a lot of positive remarks in Forums like this. But when you research like I have done, you will soon understand that all of these positive remarks are written by the management of AHA itself. Pretty pathetic dont you think. For your information, Rhea (or what ever your name is, maybe cath, maverick or wenz) I have done quite a lot of research. After all it is quite a lot of money that my parents are investing in my education. I have visited AHA plus another five schools with a similar curriculum. ( Perhaps we met when I was there?) AHA is absolutely nothing special. But not only that. I have talked to several of your students that are enrolled in your school now. They have recommended me to enroll somewhere else.
I agree with you fully Rhea. Before enrolling in a culinary school you should do your research.

  4. I’m a student of Global. nasaktan naman ako mabasa na di ok ang Global, but i personally think Global provides quality education. They teach the basics using classical French, although I hope they also include other cuisines as well. so far, I’m happy with Global.

“Global Academy is the first culinary school in the Philippines to receive World Association of Chefs Societies (WACS) Recognition of Quality Culinary Education. — a global gold standard in culinary education. This means that the school has met and exceeded WACS’ high quality standards of culinary education.

WACS is a global network of chef associations founded in Paris in 1928, with currently over 93 member associations representing more than eight million chefs worldwide. As an authority and opinion leader on food, WACS represents a global voice on all issues related to the culinary profession.”

They have also been consistently winning in culinary competitions among culinary schools in the country; moveover, bagging most number of awards.

De la salle college of st. benilde is one of the best schools that offers bachelor of arts degree for culinary arts. there are a lot of international companies and agencies that automatically hir fresh graduates from CSB. 3 years and 2terms (trimestral) offers all minor subjects, management subjects, personal developement class, and culinary subjects which includes basics, experimental, and international cuisine. csb also teaches french or spanish class as a requirement. there are also philippine and international tours to maximize student’s knowlege and experience. if youre not in a hurry, go to csb. Kung hindi lang ako nadelay sa prequisite na classes for majors graduate na sana ako 🙂

My mom, sister and I went to AHA because they have a program that partners with University of Makati as well as Miriam College. I wanted to see how good it was because with the partnership they formed with both schools, the all in all expenses amount to Php 1.5 Million.

We know that studying Culinary Arts is no joke both as a career and the finances behind it so we’ve decided to ask the partners what they can offer to my sister after she graduates in the program.

AHA is located at an old building at one of the ritziest location in Makati, Salcedo Village. Its a one-storey culinary school sans laboratory but what was strange about it was that it was only 4pm and the place is half empty. We’ve wanted to give them a surprise visit to see the bona fide activities going on in the establishments. Surprisingly, there were none. We were entertained by a guidance counselor simply introduced as Mrs. Cordova. She was kind, polite and yet disturbingly she keeps on rumbling her introduction in broken English as if we were foreigners.

She gave a first good impression on the school with its many accreditation. However, when we came to the point in asking her where the graduates are now and their success rate, she was unable to answer. She was like this for most of the tour referring to the lack of the staff or the marketing officers who can answer most of what we know are basic questions- but we simply ignored it seeing that she was old and considerately senile.

We informed her that we would like to know the difference between their Bachelor of Arts degree course and that of one of their partner colleges. this was the part , where Mrs. Cordova became a whole new different person- not the smiling bumbling woman, whom we can sympathetically understand during the tour but this time, a woman who lost all keen sense of propriety as well as decorum in answering questions. She raised her voice and said: “why don’t you just apply in the said college and that is not an AHA diploma”. And yet they partnered with the said college. So with 1.5 Million down the drain, AHA had verbally expressed their non honor of the partnership with the two colleges/universities.

Because they could not answer anymore, Mrs. Cordova and her husband verbally and aggressively forced us to get out of their school. My mom who has hypertension could not believe the barbarity and the ill treatment of one of the heads of the institution. Coincidentally Cordova is also the headmaster of American Hospitality Academy.

On the way out, we saw students who were about to get out of the program. They told us that American Hospitality Academy has ran a tight ship where it is mostly a Mafia/family type control with no professionalism or actual promise of milk, honey and good fortune- yes, even to the most hardworking ones. Again, 1.5 Million Pesos down the drain.

We invite you to give American Hospitality Academy a surprise visit just like we did for your own benefit of the doubt. But nevertheless, Thank you again, Mrs. Cordova (guidance counselor) for your utmost and candid reaction of the whole interview. You certainly handled yourself with much fire under grace and we thank you so much for being your true self (not the marketing type of people) that you actually save us the trouble and the money to enroll my sister in your institution. How I wish all culinary institutions will bring out their worst foot forward so that we can judge for ourselves whether we still want our kids to be part of the whole Culinary craze courses. Thank you, Thank you, Mrs. Cordova and AHA for making it easier for us to decide which is the best culinary school where our money and the most important commodity of all, time, shall not be wasted.

I went sa aha ng 4pm dn . Actually mga august or sept pa un ..

Wow… Theres really someone who works for AHA here. Even plugging in discounts and stuff. That already says alot with regards to the credibility of the person posting. If AHA is sooooo good… Why havent i heard of them? If you want QUALITY schooling, stick with the schools that have MADE A NAME in that business like ISCAHM and CCA. these were the 2 oldest culinary schools and have been competing with each other for so long. All the other schools like Ederun, Treston and Global are good too, but they are new. tuition wise, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. ISCAHM used to be 250,000 for the entire 14 month course including the uniform, books, etc and CCA was about 300,000 for the 2 year course including everything. I dont know how much Global or Treston is, but Enderun in about 180,000 per semester. Thats all i know regarding that schools fees.

With regards to a 50,000 course, your better of enrolling in a TESDA program wich will give you somewhat skills but for much less and with a TESDA certificate.

It shouldnt matter how the school looks, what the students say or not say, in the end of the day, CULINARY SCHOOL IS WHAT YOU SEE AND WHAT YOU GET. Not everybody has the right attitude and endurance for this highly skillful profession, so those that complain obviously has no business being there. And for the record, almost ALL chefs SMOKE! So its Immature to base judgement and make stupid comments on the actions of mere students. Alangan naman mag Marshall Law ang skwelahan diba?

So there you go. This is the most common sense youll get regarding this matter. Good day

  5. Undeniably believe that which you said. Your favorite reason seemed to
be at the net the simplest thing to have in mind of.
I say to you, I definitely get annoyed while folks consider issues
that they just don’t know about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top and also defined out the entire thing with no need side effect , other folks could take a signal. Will probably be again to get more. Thank you

My professor in college have gone to a culinary school here in Philippines and in USA. When i asked her for suggestions about what schools would really help me with my career she told me to never go for the advertised schools like CCA as you pay for nothing less than a few modules. It really depends on you though (preferences, etc.)
